Project Information
P McVey Building Systems delivered modular hospital buildings at St. Vincent’s University Hospital. The team installed 40 prefabricated modules across four overnight shifts. This approach allowed the hospital to operate normally without disruption. Consequently, patients, staff, and emergency services maintained full access throughout the project. The project created a two-storey modular building to store medical records safely and efficiently. Each module was engineered to meet accessibility and fire safety standards while fitting seamlessly with the hospital’s existing infrastructure. The team coordinated closely with hospital staff to schedule deliveries and crane operations during off-peak night hours, preventing any disruption to daily operations.
Offsite Solution
The project used a full offsite modular construction approach. All 40 modules were manufactured in a controlled factory, ensuring consistent quality and precise finishes. Meanwhile, the team prepared the site in parallel, significantly reducing the overall programme time. Each module arrived pre-fitted with internal walls, insulation, flooring, and initial finishes on 40 articulated lorries. Offsite construction reduced waste, improved environmental performance, lowered on-site labour needs, and enhanced safety. As a result, the installation finished quickly and efficiently.
The overnight installation allowed the facility to become fully operational ahead of schedule. The new modular hospital building now provides secure, high-quality medical records storage while maintaining smooth hospital operations. This project demonstrates how modular hospital buildings can deliver fast, safe, and sustainable solutions in complex live healthcare environments.
