Project Information

P McVey Building Systems delivered modular school buildings for St. Bricin’s College in Belturbet, appointed by CMETB as the main contractor. Timing was critical, as the project needed completion before the new school year. The team followed a tightly managed schedule, meeting all deadlines while staying within budget. Consequently, internal works started earlier than planned, allowing the building to be fully ready for students’ return. The project created 1,500m² of modern teaching accommodation. This includes bespoke SEN units, classrooms, toilets, soft play areas, and other educational spaces supporting up to 180 students. The two-storey facility offers durable, high-quality, and future-proofed spaces that enhance both teaching and learning. Working within a live school, the team coordinated closely with the school and design team, applying strict safety protocols to ensure uninterrupted learning throughout construction.

Offsite Solution

The team used full offsite modular construction, manufacturing all 36 steel frame modules in a controlled factory environment. This approach delivered the project quickly and safely, even in a live school setting. Installation ran alongside on-site mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works, ensuring the building was fully functional upon completion.

The project ran in phases. Phase 1 removed a redundant modular building and installed temporary accommodation to maintain school operations. Phase 2 started in January and finished by June, followed by a turnkey finish developed with CMETB and WGG Architects to ensure seamless handover before September. The no-waste policy reduced embodied carbon by 35% compared to traditional construction. By using offsite modular construction, the team minimised site disruption, reduced health and safety risks, and met tight deadlines. The result is a high-quality, energy-efficient, and safe facility that will serve the school community for years.
