Project Information
P McVey Building Systems delivered the Scoil Na Seolta project using modular school buildings. The team installed all 11 modules in a single day, this fast approach allowed the school to open on time and caused minimal disruption to the local area. Therefore, the project quickly met the rising demand for Irish-medium education in East Belfast and created modern learning spaces for pupils.
The building accommodates 40 pupils and includes two classrooms, staff offices, two breakout rooms, and toilet facilities. In addition, the project added a large playground, two covered play areas, landscaped lawns, and a 12-space car park. Secure fencing and purpose-built footpaths improved safety and accessibility. Furthermore, the school meets Near NZEB energy standards, featuring high insulation and airtight construction. Energy-efficient air-to-air heat pumps reduce energy use and lower the carbon footprint.
Offsite Solution
The team used offsite modular construction to speed up the build. They prefabricated all 11 sections in a factory, which improved precision and reduced waste. Meanwhile, site preparation and module production occurred simultaneously, saving time. Once delivered, the modules were installed in one day, allowing the team to begin internal fit-out immediately. This method also reduced noise, traffic, and general disruption in the neighbourhood. This project demonstrates that modular school buildings can deliver fast, sustainable, and high-quality education spaces. Scoil Na Seolta sets a benchmark for future schools, showing how modern construction methods meet urgent educational needs effectively.
