Scoil Mhuire Coolcotts

Project Information

P McVey Building Systems delivered a two-storey modular classroom block at Scoil Mhuire Coolcotts to meet urgent expansion needs. By using modular construction, the school gained additional classrooms quickly and efficiently. The team completed the building on time, ensuring it was ready for the start of the new term. In addition, the installation was carefully staged, with the ground floor and first floor installed on separate days. This planning allowed the school to continue normal operations without disruption.

The new block provides six classrooms, each measuring 90m², along with six Special Education Teaching (SET) rooms to support the school’s specialised learning programmes. Since the building was placed on an existing playground, the team constructed a new compliant playground, including climbing frames and a retaining wall to extend outdoor space. Furthermore, they installed traditional foundations and external drainage to ensure long-term durability and proper site function.e

Offsite Solution

The project employed modular offsite construction, prefabricating all 26 modules in a controlled factory environment. Consequently, the team installed the ground floor modules in a single day and followed with the first floor modules the next day. This approach reduced on-site construction time and limited disruption to school activities. Moreover, offsite fabrication enhanced quality control, guaranteeing precision in both structural and internal finishes. This strategy accelerated the project timeline, minimised environmental impact, and maintained high-quality standards. Overall, the Scoil Mhuire Coolcotts project highlights how modular classroom blocks provide fast, reliable, and effective solutions for schools facing urgent expansion.
