Project Information
Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital needed extra patient beds quickly. The modular hospital ward provided a fast, safe, and modern solution. P McVey Building Systems designed, built, and installed the extension using offsite construction. As a result, the hospital maintained smooth daily operations while gaining new capacity. The single-storey 500m² extension contains 18 prefabricated modules. In addition, it provides 15 patient beds, three patient toilets, a staff base, clean and dirty utility rooms, and a communications and switch room.
This project delivered a highly functional healthcare environment that meets operational needs and regulatory standards. Meanwhile, external work was limited to perimeter paths. The team implemented strict health and safety measures to protect staff, patients, and construction personnel. Beattie Flanigan handled the mechanical and electrical design and groundworks, ensuring full compliance and smooth integration with existing hospital services.
Offsite Solution
The team manufactured all 18 modules in a controlled factory. Firstly, this approach improved quality and reduced mistakes. Next, it shortened on-site construction time and minimised disruption. The rapid installation allowed the ward to become operational almost immediately, showing the efficiency of modular construction in healthcare. The extension achieved an A3 energy rating, demonstrating high energy efficiency and sustainability. In addition, the modular design integrated seamlessly with existing facilities while meeting building regulations and safety requirements. As a result, the hospital received a modern, fully compliant ward without affecting daily operations.
