New Kershaw Centre

Project Information

This modular school building project delivered new learning spaces for Bury County Council within a tight schedule. The school needed more room before the start of the academic year, so the team used modular construction to save time and reduce disruption. As a result, the project met the programme, improved safety on site, and created a modern learning environment for pupils and staff. A strict programme was enforced and gave the school a complete 264m² facility in time for the new academic year. The building includes eight modular units arranged to support growing educational needs within the local area. Inside, the school gained two classrooms for eight pupils each. Both rooms include storage areas and breakout rooms that give pupils flexible learning space. The layout also features a dedicated science classroom for eight pupils, paired with a science store for equipment and supplies. In addition, the building includes an accessible pupil toilet, a staff toilet, a calm room, and a cloakroom. These spaces create a clear and practical layout that supports daily school life.

Offsite Solution

The team used an offsite construction method to keep the programme on track. They built all eight modules in a controlled factory environment, which improved quality and reduced weather delays. This approach also lowered health and safety risks on site, since most work happened offsite. Once the modules arrived at the school, the team installed them quickly and connected the services with minimal disruption. Because the modules were already complete, the installation moved fast and stayed predictable. As a result, the council received a durable, high-quality building without long on-site construction activity.
