March Highways Depot

Project Information

Cambridge County Council needed a new welfare facility at their March Highways Depot to support staff and improve efficiency. P McVey Building Systems designed, manufactured, and installed a modern modular building tailored to the council’s requirements. The facility includes three Anti-Vandal cabins, featuring a canteen, male and female toilets, showers, and a locker room with heated lockers and bench seating. Each building meets current Building Control Regulations and incorporates a 6 kW solar system for renewable energy. The project also involved demolishing an existing block and beam structure and installing a 350 m² concrete slab to support the new cabins.

Offsite Solution

By using offsite modular construction, P McVey achieved speed, quality, and efficiency. They manufactured the cabins in a controlled factory, which allowed strict quality control and reduced on-site disruption. Meanwhile, groundworks proceeded simultaneously, streamlining the schedule. As a result, the team installed all modules quickly on-site, minimised downtime, and ensured a smooth handover.

Moreover, the project highlights sustainable construction practices. The solar system reduces energy use, and offsite fabrication lowers waste and environmental impact. This approach demonstrates how modern modular methods deliver durable, high-performance welfare facilities. Overall, the March Highways Depot project shows the advantages of modular construction: fast delivery, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and environmental benefits. By combining careful planning, innovative techniques, and offsite manufacturing, P McVey provided a facility that meets staff needs while minimising disruption to depot operations.
