Project Information
The Education Authority Hire Fleet project at Breda Academy delivered the project over a fast paced programme. The team structured the timeline carefully to match the Education Authority’s deployment requirements. As a result, all modular classrooms were fully operational for the start of the new academic term. Close coordination between P McVey, the project architect, and the principal designer, along with input from key consultants, ensured a well-sequenced programme covering groundworks, modular installation, and final commissioning.
The project delivered single-storey modular classrooms with SEN (Special Educational Needs) provision across several Education Authority locations. Each classroom contained three or four modular units. The design provided flexible, high-quality learning environments that met modern educational standards. The team installed traditional foundations and padstones, associated paths, paving, and the complete steel-frame modular structures. Beattie Flanigan provided M&E services, and George Dawson handled structural and civil engineering. Meanwhile, the Education Authority oversaw project management and cost control.
Offsite Solution
The team designed and manufactured the modular classrooms offsite. This approach ensured consistent build quality and allowed rapid deployment across occupied school sites. Offsite fabrication provided controlled production conditions and efficient module assembly. Meanwhile, groundworks progressed simultaneously on each school site. This parallel workflow reduced programme duration and minimised disruption to teaching and learning.
Once the modules arrived on-site, the team installed them on prepared foundations using a streamlined lifting and assembly process. This method reduced on-site labour and improved health and safety. The offsite approach also allowed fast integration of building services and internal finishes. Consequently, each classroom was ready for occupation within a short timeframe. The project also focused on sustainability and social value, achieving the Education Authority’s objectives for energy-efficient, environmentally responsible, and community-focused educational facilities.
