Project Details

Dean Maguric college required new modular accommodation for their school which will accommodate up to 160 students. This 800m2 offsite project consisted of 32 bespoke steel frame modules, creating a single-story teaching space solution, which will support the wider school development over the next number of decades. 

This offsite project began in May with the first phase delivered and installed in June.

A turnkey finish was then prepared, working closely with the Education Authority to ensure handover in advance of the new school year in September

Offsite solution

P McVey Building Systems was appointed the main contractor by the EA for this project – an offsite solution was required to minimise health and safety in the live working environment. 

The EA also required a quick turn around project to accommodate their growing school at Carrickmore. The new accommodation would provide a safe working environment for all the students attending the school.

The steel framed modular building has delivered, teaching space, toilets , music room, upper sixth common rooms and storage facilities. 

Project Overview

The project comprised of 32 steel frame modules which were manufactured offsite and then installed onsite alongside the internal electrics and plumbing. 

While onsite, P McVey Building Systems upheld a no waste policy to help support Dean Maguric carbon saving commitment, which was 35% less embodied carbon when compared to traditional construction. 

Our internal design team worked closely with the EA throughout the planning phase and were a fundamental part of the project, allowing the program to run smoothly throughout. 

Timescale

EA confirmed that timing was a vital element at the beginning of the project as the finish date was also the beginning of their return for the start of the new school year. 

Our strict programme made sure that deadlines were met on-time and within budget, allowing internal work to begin ahead of schedule, finishing alongside the programme for handover which was made before any students returned to school.
