Abbotts Cross Primary School

Project Information

The Education Authority Hire Fleet project at Abbotts Cross Primary School delivered the project over a fast paced programme. The team planned the timeline carefully to meet the Education Authority’s deployment needs. As a result, all temporary and permanent modular classrooms became fully operational for the new academic term. The programme also avoided disruption to daily school activities.

P McVey Building Systems led the project as contractor, architect, and principal designer. They worked closely with the consultant team to keep the programme smooth and well-sequenced. This collaboration supported steady progress through groundworks, modular installation, and final commissioning. It also ensured timely, high-quality delivery without interruption.

The project delivered single-storey modular classrooms with SEN provisions. Each building used four modular units to create adaptable, modern learning spaces. The team designed and installed traditional foundations, padstones, and new paths and paving. They also supplied and installed complete modular steel-frame structures, including temporary modular classrooms throughout the site.

Offsite Solution

The modular classrooms were designed and manufactured offsite, ensuring consistency in build quality and enabling rapid deployment across occupied school environments. Offsite fabrication provided controlled production conditions, stringent quality assurance, and efficient module assembly, while allowing groundworks to progress concurrently on each school site. This parallel workflow significantly reduced programme duration and minimised disruption to teaching and learning activities.

Once delivered to site, the modules were installed on prepared foundations with a streamlined lifting and assembly process that reduced on-site labour and health and safety risks. The offsite approach enabled fast integration of building services and internal finishes, ensuring each classroom was ready for occupation within a short timeframe. Sustainability and social value were key considerations, with the completed scheme achieving the Education Authority’s objectives for environmentally responsible, energy-efficient, and community-focused educational facilities.
